Phu Salao, Golden Buddha, Pakse

#1 of 19 in Things to do in Pakse
Perched high on Salao Hill, the impressive Phu Salao, Golden Buddha surveys the panoramic landscape of the region. Part of Phu Salao Buddhist temple complex, the summit can be reached by ascending a multitude of steep steps (note that these are poorly maintained) for the more athletic travelers, or by a road that winds around the hill to the site. Look out for other small golden Buddha statues, neatly arranged nearby. Consider heading up to watch the sunset over Pakse from this spot, and be sure to bring your camera along. • We visited as part of a small tour. The views where stunning over Pakse and the area. We went just before sunset whilst it was quiet.  more »
  • One of the best panorama in PaksĂ©. The Buddha is impressive, but the view is the best of the place. There are more than 30 other statues up to the mountain and a very colourful temple. The stairs are....  more »

  • this place is the right choice breath taking sunset and evening breeze. the view includes sunset western horizon, evening fishermen life in Mekong river, plus frenzy Pakse night view. be careful to the steep stair way leading to viewpoint!
  • This peak with its large golden Buddha statue at its apex is a great place for a panoramic view back across the Mekong to Pakse, and beyond. The peak can be seen easily from Pakse Township and a visitation will entail crossing the bridge to the western bank of the river. If you are planning to go up there to catch the sunset, you are well advised to take a flashlight because the descent may end up being done in the dark. Such is the distance from the carpark to the top. The lower section of the trail to the top has well-constructed cement steps but this eventually gives way to rickety wooden stairs which needed to be negotiated with care. The hike up is further than it looks. Therefore a reasonable level of fitness is advised as well as enough time to get up and back before darkness falls. The Buddha statue at the top is large and impressive and is part of a temple complex. Whilst there, the temple monks will probably come in small groups to pay their respects to the statue.
