History, art, and scenic views await at Wat Phu, World Heritage-listed temple ruins with roots dating back to the 5th century. The hilltop Khmer Hindu site offers excellent vistas of the Mekong River and surrounding nature. The original temple dated from the 5th century, but was later destroyed; the current structure dates back to the 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries. Take notice of the detailed workmanship visible in the architecture and interior, including intricate lintels, a cliff face Buddha footprint, and boulders carved to resemble elephants and a crocodile. As you explore the complex you will also find a natural spring, believed to produce holy water. • An ancient place of worship that is being meticulously restored by the Archaeological Survey of India, comprising of a group of talented, professional and sincerely dedicated experts who understand the enormity of their responsibility. It should not only be restored in a manner of salvaging the past, but also redone in a manner that brings this priceless monument back to its pristine glory. A shrine to visit in silent respect.
  • Nice historical place. Nature in Laos is so gorgeous. You should bring water coz they just sell water at the top of the hill. Not very expensive there but really tired of climbing if you are thirsty.
