Tash Rabat, Naryn Province

Feel the risk of the ancient Silk Road trade at Tash Rabat. This 15th century stone caravanserai (or roadside inn) sits at 3,200 m (10,500 ft). Originally built as a Nestorian monastery in the 10th century on the road from Bishkek to Torugart Pass, this sheltered trading stopover has 31 dome-shaped rooms made of crushed stone on clay mortar with gypsum mortar in sealing joints. You'll find on-site camping available with basic facilities and yaks, yurts, nomads some 17 km (10.5 mi) from the end of the paved road. Unmatched starry skies will be your reward if you stay overnight here. Put Tash Rabat into our Naryn Province vacation app and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
