One of the best-preserved Serbian monasteries of Byzantine and Western styles, represents the largest medieval church of the Balkans and is designated a World Heritage site. Established in 1327, it also features over 1,000 compositions and several thousand portraits of religious character, making it the largest preserved gallery of Serbian medieval art. See the white-and-pink exterior marble walls, and tour the monastery's dark, mysterious interior adorned with lavishly decorated portals and windows. You'll also have the chance to view the 14th-century wooden iconostasis and look for King Stefan's sarcophagus. Impressive monastery with fortifications and annexes. Most of painting inside the monastery are original. You can light candles inside the church and you can buy booklets about the monastery in many languages. A guide is also available.
Very nice but the security is rather strict. We had to leave our passports at the soldier outside, then leave our backpacks at the gatekeeper's office. The monastery itself is really beautiful.
