Explore caves and waterfalls in lush urban greenery at Karura Forest, Nairobi's flagship preserve and a getaway from the bustling capital. Spanning 564 hectares (1,394 acres), this scenic forest interlaced with rivers features a bamboo grove and marshlands sheltering colobus monkeys, galagos, bushpigs, porcupines, and dik diks amidst shrubs and croton trees. Explore 50 km (31 mi) of well-maintained nature trails, with views of African olive trees and Uganda greenheart. See caves used by the Mau Mau rebels in their epic independence struggle against the British Empire. There is also a memorial to the 2013 terrorist attack and an old chimney incinerator used to destroy decommissioned banknotes. Nothing beats working out in the heart of mother nature's finest, breathing fresh air and getting your health in check. Karura Forest is the best place to go running, biking, nature seeing and walking especially on weekends. The forest is safe for children also so it's an ideal place for a family to make memories. Bikes are rented per hour. In the forest is a waterfall that is a beautiful site to see. Also there are several caves to explore. Some parts of the forest are little hilly hence it accounts for a good terrain to work out and break some sweat. There is a beautiful garden at Karura Forest that can be used for various outdoor occasions such as weddings, birthdays and Cocktail parties. There is a restaurant -The River Café- to grab a bite or get some fresh juice if you are hungry after excruciating work out or just want to relax as you take in the nature view. The forest has a couple of gates and it's just as easy to get lost in the forest and get out of a different exit. It's okay because they will still let you out. The forest does not have dangerous animals in it although some snakes have been known to frequent the area in search for food such as rats and rabbits when there is less food where they stay and are forced to go out to seek a meal.
It's a cool place, adventurous, and a place you can relax and have fun.... Directions are well labeled you can't get lost even in the deep inside of the forest. Again its danger free....
