Centering around a dramatic monument, Park Named After Panfilov’s 28 Guardsmen commemorates an infantry unit of 28 soldiers who bravely fought the Nazis near Moscow during World War II. Lead by Ivan Panfilov, the guardsmen from all 15 Soviet republics significantly delayed the advance of German soldiers and tanks, despite a high number of casualties. Notice the black monument's eternal flame, burning for the fallen troops of both the Russian Civil War and the Great Patriotic War. Relax on the benches and enjoy the park's verdant ambience. Nearby attractions include a museum of musical instruments and a cathedral made entirely of wood. • One of the main tourist areas in the center of Almaty. This park has a lot of different attractions and memorials. There is a wooden Orthodox Christian Cathedral that dates back to before the Soviet Union, a memorial to World War II and other wars that Kazakhstani people fought in, hip restaurants and clubs, shopping nearby, and more. During winter there is an area to iceskate for free, and there are usually horses around for rides and carriage rides. The history and beauty of this park is not one to miss.
  • Great park. Calm and cozy. In autumn you can contemplate golden leaves of high trees.
