  • Great discovery in Madaba, to do absolutely with st George's Church. The manager is very welcoming and explains the basics and is very available for any other questions. The church is beautiful but it is when you rush into the acropolis (the underground) and you discover the museum that you think you're Indiana Jones! We pass through the eras in a fun way with a bonus climb to the cloak offering a panoramic view of the city of Madaba. We stayed there for an hour and a half but the visit can be done in 30min. All for 1JOD per person. Favorite!

  • Madaba is the biggest christian (&probably the only one) in Jordan. It is the city of mosaics. The main attraction is St. john the Baptist church where you will find the famous 16x6 m. ancient Palestine mosaic. When it was created it consisted of 2,3 millions! tiny pieces and showed the Holy Land; most probably it served a pilgrim map. In the middle of the map you will see the oval city of Jerusalem with its 21 towers and 6 gates.
  • It was a wonderful experience visiting this church. The staff here was also very helpful. The church complex is small but beautiful. For us, the exciting parts of the experience were - the climb to the bell tower and the descent into the acropolis. The bell tower climb using stairs is not very difficult and the views from the top are amazing. The underground acropolis is chilly but an interesting experience - there are lot of beautiful mosaics, artefacts and a lot of history. The church building itself is big and sparsely decorated.
