Trip Planner: Asia / Japan / Kyushu / Kumamoto Prefecture / Kamimashiki-gun / Yamato-cho / Tsujunkyo Bridge
Walk across Tsujunkyo Bridge, the largest stone aqueduct in Japan, and feel the vibrations as it discharges large quantities of water from its 27.3 m high (90 ft) arch. An important irrigation structure built in 1854, this advanced piece of masonry makes it possible for water to flow into a higher area of the Shiroito Plateau for farming. Still functional after 160 years, the aqueduct makes a spectacular sound as it releases water. Check the aqueduct's release schedule to see it at its most impressive, when it discharges water, or take a guided tour. Try the croquets in nearby Yamato-cho, a specialty local lunch option. Tsujunkyo Bridge Reviews
残念ながら補修工事中で、足場が設置してありました。 ちょっと分り辛い場所に道の駅がありますが、 ここからの眺めが一番でした。 more »Unfortunately, it was under repair work, and scaffolding was installed. There is a roadside station in a place that is a little difficult to understand, but the view from here was the best.
more »It is a large large stone arch waterway bridge registered in the "Irrigation Facility Heritage". I think the idea and technology of building such a facility are wonderful. It becomes a picture even if it sees from a distance, and it can be felt that it is a waterway bridge when seeing it from a close. I can't go to the top of the bridge now, but I want to go there again when the construction is over.
Nice place, nice people around the village. Very summer you can see the big event with fire works at the bridge. You must drive.
Not in good season.
