Uwajima Castle, Uwajima

4.3
Hike the ancient stairway to Uwajima Castle, a fortified structure well known as one of only 12 in the country to retain its original wooden keep. This modest hilltop castle affords elevated views over the bay and the township, stretching to the verdant hills that surround. Within the three-tiered keep, you can inspect swords and armor, alongside portraits of the feudal lords who owned them. Though the hike to the castle takes only 10-15 minutes, the steep and uneven trail may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties. • It is about a 15-minute walk from Uwajima Station on the Yoto Line. It is located on a hill and you can see the city of Uwajima, but because there are a lot of slopes, it was a feeling like exercising in the surroundings. The entrance fee is relatively inexpensive, so you should definitely go to the castle.

  • In the first half of Golden Week, the parking lot on the north side waited for a while. The size of the parking lot itself seems to have been more than that of the number of people who came though there was it in its own way. There was a gate right next to the parking lot, and i climbed the stairs from there. It was a road that had not changed much since the Edo period. When I climbed the mountain, I felt a little lack of acid. The castle tower is small, but because it is still in existence, it is the one that the wooden building is understood well in the inside. Because it was in the rain, the scenery was not able to be enjoyed enough, but this is the fate of man who comes from a distance. It is also a place where you may want to come.

  • Loved the quaint and non-touristy vibe to this little gem of a castle. Not a ton to see inside, however I would say the 200 Yen fee is worth if just to support the area. The path up the hill has a short and long course, depending on if you like to climb stairs or not. If you are in the area, definitely check it out. This castle is very photogenic and was very peaceful during our visit. Only a handful of people were around.
  • It's a tiny castle, on a very steep hill. From the top you can see the whole city of Uwajima, surrounded by mountains with an entrance to Uwakai.
