Ueda

3.6
Sacred & Religious Sites · Castles · Thermal Spas
Nestled at the start of Japan's "Romantic Road," the city of Ueda established itself in the 16th century as a prominent castle town. Flourishing in the early 20th century as a major player in the country's silk industry, today Ueda draws visitors with national monuments set within a well-preserved landscape. Many of Ueda's attractions surround the remains of the 16th-century castle in the central district, allowing you to tour museums, galleries, and temples with one day of relaxed walking. Set against a backdrop of rugged mountain scenery, the southeast of the city contains several ancient onsens, popular with many after a long hike or ski in the winter season (December to February). Whether you only want to go to Ueda, or have a whole adventure planned, Inspirock has you covered with our user-friendly Japan itinerary planner.
