Tamamo Park, Takamatsu

3.7
Take a step back into the past and visit the remains of an early 17th-century castle as you take a peaceful stroll through Tamamo Park. As you walk through the former castle grounds, take in views of surrounding trees, old stone walls, and the nearby sea. Continue to walk around the park and you will come across a 100-year-old Hiunkaku house, which features a traditional Japanese interior complete with paper doors. The highlight of the park is the restored castle, with a history dating back to the Edo period. One of Japan’s only castles, it features a moat that connects to the ocean. Put Tamamo Park into our Takamatsu online tour itinerary planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • We entered from the east gate of our garden, but the moat under the bridge where we entered was swimming near the surface of the water. You can see that this moat is seawater. Trees mainly composed of pine trees are planted on both sides of the walking path in the park, making it a healing space. In addition, there is a castle tower of the historic site Takamatsu Castle called the three great water castles in Japan (restoration of the castle tower in the future), you can see the ferry and nearby islands entering Takamatsu Port from here. In addition, there was a display of bonsai, feeding of sea bream (sea bream castle) and cherry blossom plaza, so we were able to spend a relaxing time.

  • It is about a 3-minute walk from Takamatsu Station. An entrance fee of 200 yen for adults and 100 yen for children is required. It is a sea castle where sea water is in the moat. There is also a clean toilet.

  • When we got there it was temporarily closed for restoration. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t have a chance to look around the castel. However there is beautiful well-maintained garden. You will be amazed to see this traditional Japanese garden and old style temple.
  • A beautiful historic castle and park. Worth to visit.
