Miyagi Zao Fox Village, also known as Kitsune Mura, is a tourist attraction and not a sanctuary for foxes in Shiroishi, Miyagi, Japan where visitors can feed and interact with foxes. The village's main exhibit is an open area where foxes roam around and visitors can enter to interact with and feed them, although attempting to pet or hand-feed the foxes is not advised as they may bite. There are over 100 foxes, including typical red and arctic foxes, foxes with uncommon coat colors, such as silver and platinum foxes, and red-arctic fox hybrids. The village also has rabbits, miniature horses, goats, and guinea pigs, in addition to gift and snack shops. In the spring, events are hosted in which visitors can hug fox kits.

  • The animals are treated poorly and it makes you sad to walk between the foxes. Not recommended at all.  more »
  • Not sure what's so 'cute' about caged foxes and foxes forced to be on a lead. And you feed them hot dogs that I wouldn't even feed a human child. The place stinks. And I mean that literally. If they.....  more »
  • I really enjoyed the experience of the visit. Foxes are one of my favorite animals and to see them up close was a treat. From what I saw the water was clean for them to drink, they were being well fed, and overall the place appeared safe for all of them. Fights did occur but they are wild animals but it also appeared all injuries were tended to with care.
  • Don't go... In every video I have seen, it looks much better. We didn't expect it to be a wonderful fox wonderland based on previous animal island etc experiences but it was even worse. Too many foxes in a very confined space. We saw feeding time, too and it was a big big fight. Some foxes are injured. It costs 1000 yen. I don't really know much more to say now. Of course they are cute but it doesn't look as if they are kept appropriately.
