Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Visit Akama Shrine, an elegant shrine with a sad dedication. It commemorates Antoku, a child emperor who drowned at a very early age during the culturally important nautical battle of Dan-No-Ura. Observe the colors and style of the building and gate, said to be inspired by the folkloric, sub-aquatic palace of the dragon god Ryujin. Located on the waterfront not far from the battle site, the shrine affords views of the bay. • Interesting shrine dedicated to the child emperor Antoku who drowned at the battle of Dan-no-ura. Also the site of the famous ghost story about Earless Hochi.
