  • Enmeiji is Bekkaku/Bangai #12 of the Shikoku pilgrimage, most famous for being a temple of longevity, as well as for its 1000+ year old pine tree, said to have been planted by Kobo Daishi. Sadly, the tree is no longer alive, but the temple keeps an old photograph of the living tree in its full glory, and its trunk/roots have been preserved and protected somewhat from the elements by simple hut. Interestingly, due to the various items left by worshipers, it seems the entire tree/hut structure is morphing into a sort of shrine in its own right... Note that the temple complex and the tree are on opposite sides of the street, the tree being to the east of the temple...
  • It is a pleasant place. It was a little miscellaneous feeling, but the temple itself has been beautifully made. I was able to unwind the words that had been pasted in the gazebo before the Izari pine had been placed. It is the one that wants to do not hurry and to make a temple visit 😊
