Zojo-ji Temple, Shibakoen

With a towering main gate and an enormous bell, Zojo-ji Temple ranks as one of the most important places of worship for Japanese Buddhists. Enter the complex through the imposing two-level wooden gate from 1622--the only piece of the temple to survive World War II intact. Inside the complex, you'll find a gigantic bell from 1673, as well as a cedar tree planted by American president Ulysses Grant. Head behind the great hall and you'll find a cemetery and several graves marking the resting places of six different Tokugawa shoguns, rulers of the country between the 17th and mid-19th centuries. • This is one of the most impressive places I visited while in Tokyo. The peace and calm in there is strangely beautiful. Entered here with curiosity and exit with great peace of mind. A must visit in.....  more »
  • The temple with the backdrop of the Tokyo Tower is well worth visiting. It´s imposible to walk through the lines of children statues (jizos) and not feel touched.  more »

  • Amazing temple near Tokyo Tower. It has many statues of tiny children, because it enshrines the "God of Children" (the temple is dedicated to children). It's a small walk from Tokyo Tower and both attractions can be visited on the same day. From here you can get awesome pictures of old meeting new, as you can see Tokyo Tower in the background towering over the temple. It's also in the middle of a park, so you can also enjoy a nice stroll in the late afternoon (which is the best time with the most beautiful light).
  • Tou can look at Tokyo Tower from this place. It is near on foot to Tokyo Tower from here. The site is very large, and a scene is splendid. When you come, please be careful for business hours.
