Moerenuma Park, Sapporo

#2 of 18 in Nature in Sapporo
Water Body · Park
Stroll through the exquisitely designed and geometrically perfect grounds of Moerenuma Park. Converted from a waste treatment facility and designed by Japanese American artist Isamu Noguchi, the park represents a monumental feat of urban design and a fusion of nature and art. Take part in a plethora of activities in any season, such as visiting the Moere Beach--a small pond opened during the summer--or even try skiing across the snow-covered grounds during the winter. Kids will be able to let loose on the park playgrounds, and couples can opt for a romantic stroll along the 150 m (500 ft) canal. You can hire a bike to explore all the park's attractions, such as the panoramic views from the peak of Mt. more, or the iconic glass pyramid. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Moerenuma Park by using our Sapporo trip planner.

  • Beautiful landscape. A great option for a day trip out of the city of Sapporo. We got some snacks with us and rent a bicycle to get around. There is a bicycle rental post at the park. Bicycle has a lock so you can leave them with no worries if you want to go in the glass pyramid or climb up on of the hills for an observation point. (No bicycle allowed on the trails to the 2 highest observation points in the park) Fountain was closed when we were there due to an earthquake but still it was worth the visit.
  • I fell in love into this Park. Isamu Noguchi created the master plan for one of the best leisure park in the World. So heartbreaking he passed away after he completed the Master Plan in 1988, could not see the final inauguration of this great Park. It’s a privilege to spend free time, reading, jogging, cross-country skiing and having fun with the kids who really enjoy the unique designs of playgrounds and play-mountains.
