Take a tour of Mint Museum, the facility responsible for the production and circulation of Japanese coins, and home to an attractive garden of cherry blossoms. Inaugurated in 1871, the head office has been responsible for the creation of Japanese currency and medals of honor. Take a guided tour of the facility, which introduces the machines, governmental hierarchy, and measures that have helped it do its work. Visits to the cherry blossom gardens and adjoining museum offer contrasting, but similarly enriching experiences. Was at the Mint Museum to see the cherry blossoms. When I was in Osaka the flowers were off peak already but there were a few still blooming trees at the Mint Museum. more »

Fantastic and a must see site. It is conveniently located near my hotel. Easy to check in. Museum is not terribly large but very well organized and presented. While I wish there is more English or Chinese description, I read enough to understand the history. Physical money has been important in history, but becoming even more so in a capitalist society like Japan after Meiji took power and made Japan an industrialized country based on specialization and commerce. Emperor Meiji stopped at this spot when he took power and visited Osaka. Osaka was the commercial capital of Japan and the place where innovations were. It also told many history about money in the East Asian context and about Money in China. Staff were very professional. Really enjoyed. At the end of the tour, there a block of pure silver and a block of pure gold. You can touch then by hand. TRY then!

It was a beautiful spring morning when we arrived here. While we originally intended to look at the sakuras only, the museum looked quaint enough from the outside, so it piqued our interest. It was great to see the history of the Japanese currencies and also enjoy the beautiful sakuras. I managed to find a green sakura which I have never seen before. Awesome experience and thoroughly enjoyed it.
