Landmark · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Get to know the inhabitants of a protected marine environment at Cape Maeda, a popular snorkeling and diving site rich in aquatic life and interesting rock formations. Head deep down into the underwater, wave-eroded cave just offshore, watching the color of the water change to a mysterious, evocative blue and meeting the friendly fish who swim up to divers looking for food. Beginner lessons and equipment rental give budding divers and snorkelers a good route into the popular pastimes, while an onsite restaurant and nearby beaches mean anyone not wanting to plunge into the sea will find plenty to occupy their time. • I went to Cape Maeda over the weekend just to explore the area and check out the scenery. Cape Maeda was absolutely beautiful! I do snorkel and dive, but have not gotten the chance to do it here yet.....  more »
  • If you're looking for a picnic spot in Maeda, this is the place! You can take the walking trail where the shower facilities are, there is a nice spot to watch sunset and have a picnic. It's a scenic place for a morning or evening walk but don't expect it to be spectacular. Its serenity is what makes it special. Not many tourists for sightseeing, but they're many divers from mainland Japan, Taiwan or Korea. It's one of the best diving spots in Japan. If you're diving, be cautious, it has had a number of fatalities recently. If you have small kids, do keep and eye on them as certain places near the cliffs do not have railings.
  • Beautiful place, take a walk around and enjoy the views. You can dive in there. If you go with kids be extremely careful, don't let them loose. The shower and restroom are not the best but you don't go there for them.
