Hankyu Nishinomiya Stadium was a baseball stadium in Nishinomiya, Hyōgo, Japan. The stadium was opened in 1937 and had a capacity of 35,000 people.
It was primarily used for baseball and was home of the Orix Braves (Hankyu Braves), until they moved to Kobe Stadium, in 1991.
Queen performed a concert here for their Hot Space Tour in 1982. Madonna performed 3 sold out concerts at the stadium of her Blond Ambition Tour in April 1990. Michael Jackson also performed 3 sold out concerts at the venue during his Bad World Tour in 1987. Ayumi Hamasaki performed 2 sold out concerts at the stadium during her Stadium Tour 2002 A.
The stadium was closed on December 31, 2002 and was demolished from September 1, 2004 until 2005.
"Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens" (see picture on the right), a shopping mall containing a Hankyu Department Store, an Izumiya supermarket, Toho cinemas and dozens of smaller clothing, fashion and food outlets, was opened on November 26, 2008, on the vacant lot where the stadium used to be.

  • A huge shopping centre/mall, with all kinds of shops and many cafes and restaurants. Nice outside garden on the roof. Easy to get lost inside, and extremely busy on a weekend, with long queues...  more »
  • This shopping mall is very spacious and family-oriented. Children and elderly people can easily find relaxed spots in the mall.  more »
  • You can find anything. Long queues in restaurants during lunch time. Trim park (paid) and the fountains on the top floor are fun and quite popular.
  • Nice big mall in the Nishinomiya area with all the latest stores and people appear to love it. I visited during the last two days of the year, when people are buying presents to bring home in a couple of days for their friends and family. The mall was understandably busy and everywhere I visited, there were lines. All the food options looked tasty, but I did not have the pleasure of eating here this time. I will return in the future. This mall contains major brands such as Uniqlo, Toho Cinemas, and Izumiya (which is a hypermarket in Japan).
