Sefa-Utaki, Nanjo

4.2
Visit the sacred complex of Sefa-Utaki, one of the most important holy sites of the indigenous Ryukyuan people and part of a World Heritage Site. The historic complex, made up of caves and rock formations surrounded by a verdant forest, served as a Ryukyuan place of worship for millennia until Okinawa was annexed by Japan. Admire the peaceful shrine area, which supposedly only female priestesses could enter, while the king had to dress in women’s clothes to access the site. • First of all, please enter after seeing it because there is an explanation of the precaution in the video before entering Saiba Ontake. When I went there, it was after the typhoon, so the road was very slippery, so i think people who are planning to go should go and have sneakers if they can .... We went there just at lunchtime, so there were a few tourists, but it was still difficult to visit quietly. It was certainly called a shrine, but there was a unique air, but I was overwhelmed by the nature that seemed to assimilate into the plants unique to the south. In addition, we had a pleasant time at the far away place in Kutakajima.

  • If the admission fee is 300 yen per person and you charge 300 yen, a one-hour tour guide will explain it. It was too hot this time, so we went around in about 30 minutes. I think that you may eat dessert there because there is a juice shop and an ice cream shop between the road to the parking lot of the return.
