Visit the sacred complex of Sefa-Utaki, one of the most important holy sites of the indigenous Ryukyuan people and part of a World Heritage Site. The historic complex, made up of caves and rock formations surrounded by a verdant forest, served as a Ryukyuan place of worship for millennia until Okinawa was annexed by Japan. Admire the peaceful shrine area, which supposedly only female priestesses could enter, while the king had to dress in women’s clothes to access the site.
