Rock-breaking Cherry Tree, Morioka

Landmark · Tourist Spot
Wonder at the natural journey of Rock-breaking Cherry Tree, a 400-year-old cherry tree. Sprouted from the tiny crevice of a giant granite boulder, it now rises 10 m (32 ft) and symbolizes the strength of the city in the face of the 2011 tsunami. Having survived the biting northern winters as well as a fire that engulfed the adjacent courthouse, the tree, year in year out, heralds the start of new life as one of the first sakuras to blossom each spring. Rock-breaking Cherry Tree is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , international travel planner Edition.
