Miyazaki Shinto Shrine, Miyazaki

4.2
#2 of 13 in Historic Sites in Miyazaki
Religious Site · Tourist Spot
One of the oldest shrines in the region, Miyazaki Shinto Shrine tells a story of the foundation of Japan. Quiet and peaceful, the site occupies 26 hectares (64 acres) in the city. A forest that boasts a 600-year-old white wisteria surrounds the shrine, which is built entirely of dark, unpainted cedar. The shrine is known as a good place to pray for safe childbirth and protection against misfortune. Exquisite costumed ceremonies dedicated the first emperor of Japan and traditional Japanese mounted archery competitions (held seasonally) bring the area's history to life. Do not miss restored the old wooden houses behind the shrine.
