Must see · Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Try your luck with sticks and have your fortune read at Mishima Taisha, the grandest Shinto temple in Izu, famous for its cherry blossoms. A flowering explosion of 200 cherry trees of 15 varieties makes the shrine a popular spot in the blooming season. Many people get married here, admiring a 1,200-year-old sweet olive tree, a symbol of longevity. A small museum in the shrine displays national treasures, such as a decorated lacquer wooden box, a 14th-century sword, and a heart sutra dating back to 1203. The shrine also has a small deer park and a pond with large carp, and sits 10 minutes walk from Mishima railway station. • This is a large, well-cared for, beautiful area. It has a main colorfully decorated shrine, as well as many beautiful smaller shrines. If you wander around a bit, you can find, under the many large trees, handsome stonework, ponds, and even a large herd of deer.
  • Super place to know about culture and heritage of Japan. Worth visiting. Beautiful during spring season
