Myojin Pond, Matsumoto

4.5
#2 of 34 in Parks in Matsumoto
Water Body · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Immerse yourself in pristine nature amid rugged mountains and steep slopes at Myojin Pond. Life-like reflections of trees off the still surface and mist above the water will make you pause as you observe the vegetation on the bottom of the pond through crystal clear water. Moss-covered rocks lapped with water provide shelter for ducks and dragon flies, while curious snow monkeys hang out in evergreen trees above. Appreciate the small waterfall and wooden suspension bridge that add to the scene, then taste freshly caught fish on a skewer. You can find accommodations near the pond. Make Myojin Pond a part of your Matsumoto vacation plans using our Matsumoto trip planner.

  • It worth 1hr walk from Kappa Bridge. This place is so magical, peaceful and very beautiful. Visit to Kamikochi is not complete without visiting Myojin pond. The 2nd pond beside the main pond was like....  more »
  • Kamikochi park is lovely, especially in the fall. The Myojin loop is a stroll more than a hike. But on Sunday it seems like every person in Japan is visiting, turning it into a stroll-with-a-mob and....  more »

  • You pay 300yen to visit the little platform with a nice view of the mountain. Good place to take some nice pictures. Otherwise, it's a small area with nothing much other than the shrine.
  • Awesome colors reflected in the pond, the red Shinto Boats are so charming too! Get there before 14:00 or there will be shadows on the pontoon boats and small shrine! The nearby bridge is even cooler than Kappabashi and you should return to Kamikochi on the opposite side of the river compared to how you got there and see both landscapes! There is a simple restaurant on the site and entrance fee under $3 totally worth it! If you can get here on a frosty morning it will look stunning too all trees white with frost!
