Hashigui Rock, Kushimoto-cho

Observe the legendary rock formations rising like jagged, geological shark fins from the water at Hashigui Rock. This odd composition extends in a straight line for a distance of 850 m (2,788 ft) towards the neighboring island. Low tide exposes the rocky seabed, allowing for up-close inspection of these monoliths--apparently caused by weathering over the ages. Folklore suggests a different tale, however, telling how the strange forms are the foundations of an ancient bridge, sabotaged by a fearsome monster named Amanojaku. • There was this bridge pile rock around several kilometers east ward from the base part of The Shiocape in the southernmost part of Honshu in Kushimoto-cho. There was a road station along the national highway, and i parked my car in the parking lot and went to see it. Was it when I went when the tide was low? The rock pillar of large and small is almost straight line in the length of several hundred meters in the sea when seeing from the station of the road. Because the regular arrangement looks like the stake of the bridge, it seems to have given the name bridge pile rock.

  • I visited at the time of the low tide, so I saw many people walking in the sea. I saw the state at high tide in the photograph, but that one is more mysterious.
