Kurashiki Ivy Square, Kurashiki

3.4
Built in 1889 as the country's first cotton mill, Kurashiki Ivy Square has since transformed into a complex of museums, shops, and restaurants. Learn about the history of Kurashiki Bosekijo, the company that established the profitable mill building, and stop in the museum housing works by Western-style artist Kojima Torajiro, as well as some of the Egyptian and Islamic works from his own collection. Peruse artisan shops selling ceramics and other handicrafts, or take a rickshaw ride through the square. Museum-goers should be prepared for minimal English explanation regarding the exhibits. Put Kurashiki Ivy Square into our Kurashiki trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • It is converted by taking advantage of the appearance and trees of the factory of the kurashiki spinning of the brick which was founded in the Meiji era, and it becomes a hotel and the cultural facilities with the taste that the vine is entangled. The Tomioka Paper Mill, which is a World Heritage Site, has become a hotel, and there is also a memorial hall on the site where you can see the history of Kurashiki Spinning using the building.

  • I made a reservation on the day and stayed. I was able to stay at the hotel I had always dreamed of when I was a student, and my family was very happy. Unfortunately, it was raining with a typhoon, but the staff lent me an umbrella and was very helpful. The brick-making hotel in Kurabo's spinning factory had a better atmosphere than any other hotel I've ever stayed in. It was a wonderful memory.

  • Nice mid level hotel mostly oriented towards local Japanese guests. Room was small but efficient. Walking distance from historic area where i had great local dining experience. Hotel breakfast was good and espresso machine was a nice feature. I would stay again.
  • New. Pretty. But nothing special. Looks as if it might have been an urban renewal project of some sort.
