  • This is a great place to stretch your legs and hike. It takes at least an hour (each way) and, even longer, if you are into observing nature or taking photos. The trail is not well-maintained so...  more »

  • Mt. Yonaha-dake is an easy climb for pretty much anyone who can walk with a good footing. Young to old. Majority of the Mt elevation is reached by driving with the start of the trail being pretty high up the mt. already. The trail starts off a very easy to commute trail. I do warn you, it's not marked well but if you follow this one tip, you won't get lost. NEVER turn down any trail that doesn't have an arrow pointing that way. There are several locations where the trail branches in several directions (mostly trappers trails) but keep on the trail that continues in the straight direction unless there is a sign pointing. As long as you follow that, you will find the peak no problem. after about 1/4 of the way up the trail narrows to one person width with some fallen trees that will need to be climbed under or over along the way. If you have a hikers backpack on, it can be quite a pain trying to go under some of the trees so I suggest just packing a low hanging backpack with some water and snacks.. now... why did I give it 3 stars, you might ask.... well.. .the approximately 9km round trip trek leave you with NO VIEW!! yes, that's right. When you get to the peak, there is a nice open area to sit and rest...but it's surrounded on all sides by tall bamboo and trees and you can't see ANYTHING.. literally nothing. I even tried to climb a tree to see over the brush but nothing, nada, grr. so that was quite frustrating. About 15 minutes before you reach the peak there is a small semi clearing on the left side where you can see the ocean.. take your pictures there, its the only view you will get. Hope this helps! (there is a bathroom at the beginning of the trail for those who can't hold their bladder)
