Koyasan Danjo Garan, Koya-cho

4.6
Head to Koyasan Danjo Garan for a peaceful atmosphere in the midst of tall shady trees. Established in 816 CE, the shrine features about 20 temples, mostly reconstructions of the original buildings. Taking almost 70 years to complete from 816 CE, the complex’s oldest building, the great pagoda, has been destroyed five times, mostly by lightning strikes. Also find Kondo, which has been rebuilt six times due to being destroyed by fire during its history. It dates back to 819 CE and is used to host religious ceremonies. • It is the center of Koyasan, and there are a golden temple and a large pagoda. There are a lot of buildings which were restored in the Showa period because of the fire such as lightning from ancient.

  • It is a place said to be the two great holy places of Koyasan with the in-back. We parked our car in the parking lot in front of the Takano-cho Tourist Information Center and first aimed at the stage. The vermilion which was on the road passed through the bright nakamon and entered the stage cathedral. It is said that this is the place where Kobo Daishi first worked on the construction when the Koyasan was opened. As soon as we entered the nakamon, we found a golden temple, and we came to the Nemoto Tower, which is a symbol of Koyasan, around the Hex Keizo, your company, and the West Tower. I saw the pine trees of Sansei and walked straight towards Kongomine-ji Temple on the east side. It was a magnificent and solemn place with many different halls.

  • We wandered around the surroundings. It was a thoroughly enchanting experience. The whole place showcases the majesty of both Japanese nature, traditions and history. The entire place is like a giant bonsai garden. I couldn’t stop taking pictures
  • Danjo Garan is a sacred complex and one of the most important area in Koyasan. Literally it means "garden for monks". I came here at a perfect time for fall foliage color in late October 2016. Entering the compkex from jabara michi was an amazing experience. It is lined with tall cedar, japanese rowan and maple trees with red color foliage along the way. The complex has some important cultural heritage wooden buildings. You will encounter the real japanese world in this place.
