  • The monument at the Meriken wharf is located near National Route 2, at the northern end of Meriken Park. This is the site of the pier in front of the American Consulate, which was built in 868. The monument is as solid as a gatepost. There was a description below saying, "Old-fashioned Meriken Pier."

  • In 1868, the Meiji government opened Kobe Port here, and the pronunciation of the American Consulate nearby was named as a meriken. It has become a memorial as a remnant of the wharf that flourished.
