Kawasaki Daishi, Kawasaki

4.1
Pay a visit to Kawasaki Daishi, a Buddhist temple known as the headquarters of the Chizan sect of Shingon Buddhism. Founded in 1128, the large temple complex features an imposing main hall--destroyed by fire in 1945 and rebuilt in 1964--made from steel and concrete in the style of the previous Heian period. Chief among the objects of worship at the temple remains the image of a Buddhist priest, Kukai, a man considered the chief driving force behind the spread of Shingon Buddhism in the country. • This temple is really beautiful. You can pray here for a while and then see the beautiful grounds maintained by temple. Easily accessible by train, need to get down at Kawasaki Daishi station.  more »

  • Amazing new year experience at Kawasaki Daishi. Carts with food, nice temple and typical sweet shops selling to customers while making a show
  • We had a great time shopping along the Japanese-style hawker shops. All the foods sold there were truly local and taste great. The temple was huge and everyone was wearing the traditional Kimono costumes, we felt like we've just travelled back in time.
