Oyama Shrine, Kanazawa

4.1
See the blend of influences and absorb the atmosphere of reverence and respect during a visit to Oyama Shrine. Dedicated to Maeda Toshiie, the first leader of the Maeda Clan, the shrine was first built late in the 16th century on top of a nearby mountain. Moved to its present location in 1873, the shrine has become known for its interesting main gate. Designed by a Dutch architect, and originally marking the entrance of a castle, the gate displays European and Asian religious motifs, and acts as a striking entrance for worshippers and tourists alike. • This shrine enshrines the Maeda Toshiie, the founder of the Kaga Domain, which was founded in the early Meiji era. You can see a splendid torii gate from the 1million stone street, and beyond the stairs is a Western-style shinto shrine that you rarely see. Stained glass was also shining in the morning sun. After the Shinto gate, there is a splendid shrine. In the precincts, there are also statues of Toshiya and his wife's pine. I think that the mikoshi is very beautiful when it comes to the season of autumn leaves.

  • It's been over at night, so it's over. But this shrine is very special, I came to see it as a church, when I was near the discovery of a shrine

  • Very nice area that the shrine is located in. The small pond with the wooden path / bridge going through it is nice. Great place for fall foliage viewing within the city.
  • Admission is free here. This is a very nice and small shrine. Beautiful and very peaceful place to visit. It has huge fishes and ducks in the pond. You can actually go in the middle if the pond and see the fishes swimming underneath you. It has pine trees also. Less crowded place. Very scenic, must visit place and very near to Kanazawa castle park. So, both can be easily covered together.
