Izu Shaboten Zoo, Ito

4.0
#1 of 10 in Zoos & Aquariums in Shizuoka Prefecture
Admire an array of wildlife during a visit to Izu Shaboten Zoo, a nature park set at the foot of a mountain. Particularly notable for its resident population of capybaras, the park also offers the chance to see a range of other species, including monkeys, squirrels, and peacocks. The park's name translates as "Cactus Park," with plenty of fleshy plants, artfully arranged, to be found in the five pyramid-shaped greenhouses here. Take a boat tour across the onsite lake to reach a number of small islands populated by small monkeys. • My daughter-in-law and I went to Chabotten Park on a trip to Atami Onsen. It was a weekend, so we expected to be crowded, so we entered the park first thing in the morning and headed to the capybara area first. Thanks to this, i was almost chartered, and i took a commemorative photo with Capybara, and fed it, and it was very healed. I arrange a cactus and purchase it, and make my living room gorgeous.

  • Take a road bus from Izukyu Ito Station and arrive at Cactus Animal Park. The park is spacious, and capybara, flamingo, and lessa pandas are partly free to take a leisurely stroll in the park. Especially, the bird which was about man's height was surprised at the appearance that it walked in a dignified manner without being surprised even if the person approached. There were many animals and birds of North and South American descent in the park, and the background music in the park was pleasant with the rhythm of Mexican music and bossa nova. There are many cactus and flamingos on display in the park, so it feels like you're in North America. The location of the hotel is also excellent, and we have enjoyed izu cactus animal park.

  • A very bizarre experience, we travelled from Fukushima just to see the capybaras, and it was great. Went on a cold misty day, the Mexican music playing everywhere was kind of ominous, and animals seemed to appear out of the mist. Capybaras were a friendly bunch, and I really liked that there weren’t too many large animals (which often feel very sad at zoos). The chimpanzees didn’t look too happy in their sparse concrete enclosure, which was a shame. Food options are limited outside of set meal times (no lunch to be found at 2pm) but I’d say it’s worth a visit!
