Sukuji Beach, Ishigaki-jima

#3 of 8 in Beaches in Ishigaki
Fun in the sun with views over the East China Sea lures visitors to Sukuji Beach, nestled in a cove and surrounded by lush hills. The calm water makes this spot ideal for young and inexperienced swimmers, while thick trees flanking the soft sand provide enough shade for those wishing to relax out of the water. Make sure you bring your own food and drink, as facilities at the beach are minimal. Use our Ishigaki trip itinerary planner to add Sukuji Beach and other attractions to your Ishigaki vacation plans.

  • Free parking but we didn't see many facilities nearby. The day we were there was really quiet with only a few other people on the beach. Made an interesting stop although we didn't get the tides right...  more »
  • There is a free parking lot, and there is a swimming area surrounded by the net, "vinegar" in case of emergency, and a lifeguard, too, and I felt that it is suitable for the swimming with the family. In addition, we also lend sup etc. at low cost. It might depend on the time of year, but the color of the sea was very beautiful though there was an impression that there were a lot of algae.

  • Ishigaki Island's town area is about 20 km north by car, and the famous Kawadaira Bay is a 10-minute drive away. The sea is shallow and the beach is inside the bay, so the waves are always calm. The clear sea, which draws a blue and emerald green gradation, is a beauty that you want to look at forever, and there are far fewer people and a laid-back atmosphere compared to the major beaches of Ishigaki Island. The best part of the underground beach is the laid-back atmosphere that other famous beaches don't have.

  • It is shallow. I went with a child of three years old soon, but the worry of drowning is low, too. It might not be enough for those who want to swim as much as possible. There was a small fish in the shallow water, too.
