Futami Okitama Shrine, Ise

#6 of 269 in Historic Sites in Mie Prefecture
Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Jutting from the sea, two large rocks wedded by thick straw ropes represent Futami Okitama Shrine--a husband and wife rock. Couples frequently come here to pray for a life full of happiness and love. The larger one, 9 m (30 ft) tall, represents the male, while the female boulder stands 4 m (13 ft). Allegedly the ropes date back to the 14th century. Enjoy the landscape of ocean and waves crashing over the rocks, and examine the shoreline's sculptures of hundreds of frogs, dedicated to the Shinto goddess of food. • A nice place to see the Shirne. It’s take 45 minutes to see around. There’s a aquarium near by also. If you are in Ise then a visit might be okay. Parking space is bit less.
  • Iconic local shrine with the rope over the water and frogs statues.
