Futami Okitama Shrine, Ise

Jutting from the sea, two large rocks wedded by thick straw ropes represent Futami Okitama Shrine--a husband and wife rock. Couples frequently come here to pray for a life full of happiness and love. The larger one, 9 m (30 ft) tall, represents the male, while the female boulder stands 4 m (13 ft). Allegedly the ropes date back to the 14th century. Enjoy the landscape of ocean and waves crashing over the rocks, and examine the shoreline's sculptures of hundreds of frogs, dedicated to the Shinto goddess of food. • When I parked my car on the outskirts of the approach to the marital rock and went along the sandy coast, the coast soon became a rocky place. Behind the rock, there was a bright torii gate and a shrine hall, and there was Futami Kodama Shrine in front of it. In the sea in the immediate vicinity, there was a marital rock connected by a shime rope. There was also a frog statue right next to the shrine on the side of the marital rock.

  • The beach of Futamigaura is a beautiful view of white sand and blue pine, and you can feel the natural beauty of Japan. When You walk along the beach, you will see the torii gate of Futami Kodama Shrine. In the old days, it was a place to visit istome at the beginning of a visit to Ise and do misogi. It is like a promenade for a long time, and if you go to the middle, you will be able to enjoy the scenif "Matsuoiwa". It looks like a normal rock of magnitude, but i feel that it is special when I see that it has been there since ancient times and has been enshrined as an object of faith, and when I see a wave splash on the sidewalk at times. As it is, go along the promenade and cross the Misogi Bridge, and Ryugusha. If you go further, you will find "Ise-san Iwameo and Yokocho" where souvenir shops are lined up, and "Ise Sea Paradise" if you go further. I couldn't go to Sea Paradise because of my time, but I thought it was a good course for sightseeing.

  • A nice place to see the Shirne. It’s take 45 minutes to see around. There’s a aquarium near by also. If you are in Ise then a visit might be okay. Parking space is bit less.
  • Iconic local shrine with the rope over the water and frogs statues.
