Peace Bell, Hiroshima

Monument · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Ring Peace Bell, and remember the lives lost when the bomb fell on Hiroshima on the 6th of August, 1945. A statement in favor of universal peace and a monument to all lives lost in wartime, the bell displays a map of the world with each country depicted as borderless, symbolizing togetherness, fraternity, and shared identity. Visitors can toll the bell and listen to the sound ring out around the surrounding park. Created in 1964 by Masahiko Katori, a survivor of the Hiroshima bombing, the bell stands as a powerful argument against nuclear weapons. Peace Bell is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , world travel planner Edition.

  • Seeking out the source of the chimes that we heard occasionally while exploring the Peace Memorial Park, we came across an elevated structure that displays a big bell. Fairly close to the Atomic Bomb....  more »
  • One of the less dramatic exhibits in the entire Peace Park, yet that is the whole point. Go on ring it. But quietly, reverently, yet with meaning and reflect - just you.  more »

  • Hiroshima memory place is a must visit. So humbling, emotional, beautiful. A must visit.
  • Interesting historical landmark. Didn't realise the amount of other languages on the bell. The bell can actually be rung which I didn't expect. If you walk over the T bridge it will lead you in the direction of the bell.
