Hirosaki Castle, Hirosaki

Sitting above a sea of cherry trees, Hirosaki Castle represents a rare intact example of an authentic hirayama-style Japanese castle. First constructed with 5 floors in 1611 and reduced to 3 levels in accordance with Edo Shogunate law after being struck by lightning, the castle and its grounds became a National Historic Site in 1952. Embodying the classic aesthetic of a Japanese castle, the structure features fortified moats, gates, and a grand interior. The surrounding park offers plenty of scenic trails and rental rowboats to experience the castle from a different viewpoint. Hirosaki Castle is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , online itinerary creator Edition.

  • I was lucky enough to be living in Hirosaki during Spring, and it was way awesome to see the castle and surrounding area during as well as pre and post-bloom season. No matter what time of year it is a great place to take in the best that Hirosaki has to offer! 👌😁
  • Nice big park with moats and gates. A castle keep that is renovated and has an interesting exhibition of the renovation and moving process. Trimmed bushes and flowers of all sorts, koi in the moats.
