Learn about the beginnings of the Edo period and gain extensive views of the Pacific Ocean at Hamamatsu Castle Tower Gate. Before becoming the ruler of Japan, Tokugawa leyasu lived in this hilltop fort for 17 years. After taking over the stronghold in 1568, the founder of the Edo period renovated it, adding the stone palisade that still stands today. The garden around the main keep has an abundance of blossoms, while the observatory on the top floor of the building offers striking views of the sea. • The castle is very well preserved and its in the middle of yhe city, very close to Hamamatsu Station. Doesn't take very long to roam around it as its a small castle in comparison to other big ones.  more »
  • It's really beautiful at night. Go there after a hot spring bath. Feel the cold air. Enjoy the beauty of Japan at night.
  • Very pretty. Not very big, but that’s fine. Not free to get to the top of the castle (maybe one or two floors, not at all anything special), which was a small disappointment. Beautiful surroundings
