Cape Erimo, Erimo-cho

#118 of 2,982 in Things to do in Hokkaido
On the blustery Cape Erimo, the wind blows at an average of 36 kph (22.4 mph), 290 days of the year. This gives the rugged landscape a striking and desolate appearance, making for great photo opportunities. Located where the Hidaka mountains finally descend into the ocean, you'll find the point's modest lighthouse, which stands at the top of towering cliffs. You'll also find a viewpoint at the end of a spine of land, which looks out over rocky outcrops in the ocean. Bring along your binoculars to observe gulls and seals basking on the rocks below. The cape also houses a wind museum, where you can discover weather data collected from around the world, and also experience what wind traveling at 145 kph (90 mph) feels like at a dedicated facility. • I was invited to the song of Takuro Yoshida which I heard a long time ago. Certainly, there is nothing but a cape and a lighthouse. Looking at the horizon of the Pacific Ocean while being troubled by the strong wind, you can see how small human beings are!!

  • It came on the day when the rain and wind weakened a little from a typhoon to a temperate low pressure. Kelp was launched on the coast along the national highway. It is said that it is a national road, also known as a golden road, and it seems to be a road where a large amount of money hangs. Cape Erimo was more intense than the town in the rain and wind, and white waves were hitting the cliffs like they were crazy. I was worried about the big nature and couldn't get out of the car, but I was happy with the emergence of a fox on my way home.

  • You can feel the beautiful scenery and the edge of Hokkaido. There's nothing. The stunning scenery doubles the fun, depending on the weather.

  • Try to go once. It would be even better if the tour of the wind house was free of charge.
