Sapporo Clock Tower, Chuo

2.7
The city's oldest structure and one of a smattering of remaining Western-style buildings, Sapporo Clock Tower stands among the more popular tourist attractions in town. Constructed in 1878 to serve the local university, the tower features a wood construction reminiscent of architecture generally found in small-town America. Head inside to explore a small museum showcasing the university's history and the origins of the city. • It is in the valley of the building, but the clock tower had a presence. On the right hand side facing the front, there was a photography stand. I think that it is a building that is unexpectedly difficult to take a picture of the whole neatly.

  • "Former Sapporo Agricultural School Enbuba" is a valuable building that tells the history of the development of Sapporo. Some people seem to be "disappointed" because they are surrounded by tall buildings, but i would like to say that you should visit once. Furthermore, i think that the knowledge of the development deepens further if it visits hokkaido old main office building which is famous for red brick from here and Hokkaido University etc.

  • A lovely little clock tower and museum detailing the history of Sapporo, especially the agricultural college (precursor to the university). There are volunteer english language guides who will tell you anecdotes beyond the exhibits themselves. All in all, a lovely short visit!
  • A small and cozy museum where you get to understand a little bit about the history of the clock tower itself. There is a glass clock operated by 19th Century technology in its second floor (a church liked premises). Entrance fee for adults is just 200 yen and 100 yen for children. Recommended to stop by if you are here in Sapporo.
