Okurayama Lookout, Chuo

#1 of 294 in Winter Sports in Japan
Take in panoramic views of Sapporo from atop Okurayama Lookout, a hilltop attraction of Olympic fame. Located below the observatory is the Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium, a sports arena built for and used in the 1972 Winter Olympics. Unless the facilities are used for competitions, visitors can access the site's observatory by using the chair lift. Before or after your ride up to this popular vantage point, consider stopping at Sapporo Winter Sports Museum at the bottom of the hill, which features exhibits dedicated to the Olympics Games that took place here. • This is an observatory located in Mt. Okura, famous for ski jumping. You can see the city of Sapporo. Especially, the night view is recommended for a couple.

  • The location is located in Sapporo city with a panoramic view, and you can see the scenery from the bottom, but it is more impressive to ride the lift to the observatory. The lift feels good to feel the wind. Especially, it is interesting to go down while looking at the scenery.

  • Was Olympic sites which witness great events and now famous fire one of tyne best view and visit places. Great view at night from the top. Visit here? ....Why no
  • Get close up to an Olympic ski jump (huge and steep) plus get great views of the Sapporo City area for a 600 Yen lift ticket. Free parking and a separate ski jump museum (extra entrance fee). For me the most exciting part is that a fair number of times that I've visited (about 40%) actual practice jumps happen, even in summer (think water ski, everything gets hosed down with enough water to slide). Pretty amazing to watch and if you are very lucky, you get to see some of Japan's top Olympic candidates practicing.
