Shirogane Blue Pond, Biei-cho

4.0
Water Body · Wildlife Area
Rather obviously named after its deep blue color, Shirogane Blue Pond originally served as part of an erosion control system essential to protecting Biei from a potential Mount Tokachidake eruption. Located next to the hot spring destination Shirogane Onsen, this site provides visitors with a scenic place to walk and take photos. It takes less than ten minutes to walk through the wooded area and arrive at this body of water. • If it hadn't been for the crowd, I wouldn't have known there was a pond there. It was completely covered in snow with no sign of blue whatsoever. I would recommend people to visit here during warmer seasons.
  • Nice but try not to go during winter and night time as can’t really see the pond. During the night it is due to the blue light shining on the pond. But overall a nice place to visit.
