Before the Seikan tunnel opened in the late 1980s, ferries used to connect Hokkaido and Honshu, as commemorated by Seikan Ferry Memorial Ship Hakkodamaru. The self-guided tour of the ferryboat starts on the promenade deck, now a museum displaying photographs and dioramas that depict the lifestyle of the port's people. See preserved cabins, the command bridge, and the open-top deck, then descend to the lower part to check out the engine room. Highlights include the vehicle deck, displaying a historical express car, diesel locomotive, and mail car.   • You can find what it was like in Aomori in 1970s. There are many pictures and also videos. Quite informational if you like to know the old things.
  • I was out there in March 2019. I never made it inside. But it amazing to see from the outside. Day and night. It was creepy at night hearing the boat on the water sound. The area is beautiful too.
