#2 of 79 in Things to do in Aizuwakamatsu
Historic Site · Landmark
Climb the double-helix staircase at Sazaedo, a uniquely realized Buddhist temple. Ascend the winding wooden steps to the top of the structure, built in the late 18th-century and reputed to bring good fortune upon pilgrims who make the ascent. Marvel at the timber construction and observe great views across the city from the top. After visiting the temple, consider seeking out the graves of the teenage "White Tiger Corps," who took their own lives at the end of the Boshin war in 1868. PutSazaedo into our Aizuwakamatsu online travel planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
