Villa La Rotonda by Andrea Palladio, Vicenza

3.8
Villa La Rotonda by Andrea Palladio, a Renaissance villa outside of Vienza, dates back 500 years. Goethe praised it, saying that architectural art had perhaps never before reached such a level of magnificence. Designed by Andrea Palladio for Bishop Paolo Almerica, the villa went through the hands of the Capra family before being opened to the public in 1986 by the current owners, the family of Count Valmarana. That family currently lives here. Marketing events, special dinners, and cultural happenings take place at this attraction. Note that no photography is allowed, not even without flash. • Beautiful Villa. Worth to visit. Please Check in advance if the villa itself is open or not.

  • Such an important villa cannot be visited inside only 2 days a week (Wednesday and Saturday)!!! The staff (ticket office, shop and gardener all do I think) seems not to have the slightest idea where he works. Little information if you asked. At the ticket office not even a pamphlet explaining a bit the history of the villa... all at the "modic" price of 5 euros to visit only the exteriors.

  • This is one of the most important buildings in the world. It is the masterpiece of renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, a villa like a temple, and a temple like a villa with great halls amd rooms and a panoramic projection of each of ita spaces towards the surrounding landscape. Probably the most impressive interior space is the central domed hall and its frescoes. Even though one might find it annoying that you are nor allowed to take photos inside, it actually comes as a good thing, making you aware in a very direct way of every aspect of the beauty and magnificence of La Rotonda.
  • Absolutely stunning! Definitely worth a visit. Remember: the villa is only open for public on Wednesday and Saturday. On other days just the outside can be seen.
