  • In the extension of the Riva degli Schiavoni, you can walk on the docks, with on one side the very pleasant Public Garden where is the famous Biennale and on the other the lagoon and its magnificent view, often polluted by gigantic cruise ships ,which make the natives howl and curse the tourists.....

  • Continued, in the Sestiere Castello, of the Riva dei Schiavoni, it was built around 1930 with celebratory intentions and replaced the many small shipyards that sprang up and operated over the centuries along the shore. Along this Riva there are no palaces, churches or other buildings of particular importance, but there is the 'Complex of the Houses of the Marinaressa', ancient social housing that the Republic of Venice assigned to ex-sailors particularly deserving. It takes its name in memory of a tragic episode that occurred during the Second World War: following the disappearance of a German soldier (who was later discovered to have fallen into the water drunk) the German command shot, in retaliation, seven political prisoners who were already under arrest in the prisons of Santa Maria Maggiore; On the morning of August 3, 1944, the seven were tied together and placed between the first two streetlamps of the shore and, under the gaze of more than 500 inhabitants of the neighborhood who had been rounded up by German troops, were shot; the corpses remained exposed for several days (as a warning) and guarded by the Germans to prevent their removal. For years the shore was used as a landing port for the disembarkation and boarding of ferries and passenger ships, now it is dedicated to the temporary landing of means, for pleasure or tourism, large.
