Trip Planner: Europe / Italy / Veneto / Province of Venice / City of Venice / Venice / Ca' Rezzonico
After years of renovations and changing ownership, Ca' Rezzonico> became a public museum in 1936. A Venetian patrician family named Bon commissioned the palazzo, though they never saw it completed. The skeleton of the unfinished palazzo was bought by Giambattista Rezzonico, who wrapped up the project and gave the interior the opulent decor you see today. The frescoes painted on the state room ceilings are the best-preserved in all of Venice. American songwriter Cole Porter partied underneath these same frescoes when he rented the palazzo for $4,000 a month in the 1920s. In 1935, the attraction was handed over to the city and became a venue for displaying 18th-century art among the sumptuous furnishings. Visited as part of the city pass. Would recommend for a morning as it gives an interesting look into the way a venetian merchant family would have lived. Benches in the garden make a good lunch spot. more »
This stunning museum was the palace of one of Venice’s rich families. It has so many beautiful rooms and showcases art and architecture. It’s included in the city pass and it’s right on the grand canal.
This wonderful museum within the palace is a joy to visit. It has several rooms, most with a bench for sitting to enjoy the room and artwork. Each room has a descriptive card (in many languages). It has never been crowded when we have visited. It is filled with treasures of furniture, paintings, China, sculptures, and Fresco's.
