Artigianato d'Arte di Vianello Mauro, Venice

#5 of 170 in Shopping in Venice
Artisan glassmaker Mauro demonstrates his artistry by appointment at Artigianato d'Arte di Vianello Mauro. His artworks are for sale, too. If you buy a piece, the cost of your demonstration ticket will be deducted from the price of the object. This gregarious, passionate artist must let the piece made at the demonstration dry for one day, so be prepared to return to pick it up. Please make your appointment at least two weeks in advance via email. No more than five people can attend at a time. To get to the tiny shop and studio, go through the Campo San Cassan, staying parallel to the Grand Canal. • I have been to Mauro’s studio 4 times over the years. Each time I buy something special to enjoy at home and remember Venice. This year I could not be in Venice but wanted to add to my collection of f...  more »
  • I recently had to see Mauro at work in his laboratory: it was a terrific experience. My family and I have been warmly welcomed and guided to all the secrets of his art. Before our eyes there is a wonderful and unique Murano glass shell with techniques passed down from generation and perfected by what should be considered a true Italian excellence. The explanation of all the steps was enjoyable and informative even for boys. Of course you can buy the creations and to keep at home a small testimony of a tradition that, unfortunately, gradually disappearing.

  • This is my second time to Venice and this is by far the best experience I’ve had. Mauro was able to give my partner and I a private demonstration after we walked in (although he prefers appointments- ...  more »

  • In a city plastered with tourist-centric glass art, Mauro's work truly stands out. His pieces are moving, beautiful, and emblematic of the time and attention he has put into them. Best of all, Mauro will let you schedule a lesson with him! My brothers and I booked a few hours during the week for our first glass-shaping experience, and it was amazing. Mauro is an excellent teacher, and at the end of the lesson you have a) some lovely handmade glass pieces, b) a reasonable understanding of the *basics* of working with glass, and c) a newfound appreciation for the skill and care that Mauro has cultivated for his art. The lesson was so much fun that we came back 3 days later for a second lesson before heading back the USA. 5/5 cannot recommend highly enough!
  • Wonderful experience speaking to such an innovative artist. He took time to explain not only the craft but also what makes his approach unique. Beautiful works of art. Truly worth the time to see a world class artisan.
  • Mauro is an absolutely incredible human! We entered his shop to ask for advice on travelling in Venice and he offered ample advice. At no point did he stop to try and sell us his artwork, he gave us plentiful help and was just an absolute pleasure to be around! His work is beautiful as is he! Definitely recommended! ✨
  • I visited here with my wife and daughter, and order 2 pizzas for taking out. Staff asked me my 20month daughter have pizza? of course 'Yes' . Then Staff told me ' small pizza.....' but I could not listen what she said. We found that extra small pizza for my daughter free in the box at the hotel. I could not say thank you but do not forget this memory and tell my daughter about this story someday!
  • I had the pleasure of watching this Artist in his atelier and was delighted with his work. It is so refreshing to see something other than the typical tourist demonstrations. This Artist works magic with glass; he makes it seem effortless but I am certain that hundreds of hours have gone into perfecting each life form he creates and achieving the colours that make these pieces so lifelike. His atelier is not large but it is a feast for the eyes and worth the effort of arranging a visit. . I will definitely go back again when next I am in Venice.
