  • Made between 1671 and 1678 by the famous sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini, known as Le Bernin, the tomb of Pope Alexander VII is a treasure of Baroque art. You will discover the allegories of charity, of truth before prudence and justice, of striking sculptures of beauty. The symbolism of death appears as a gilded bronze skeleton, coming through the door of the afterlife and lifting the fabric of which it is head-hair. Death makes clear by its hourglass that emptied that for the Pope time has elapsed. A splendid work in front of which we must dwell with respect and admiration.

  • At the top of the sculptural composition is Pope Alexander VII himself, who kneels in prayer, under it from four sides there are sculptures of four female statues, embodying his virtues; left in the foreground with a child in his arms - Mercy, right - Truth, in the background Justice and Prudence. The project was developed by the outstanding master Bernini, to realize this masterpiece he helped other talented sculptors. Bernini himself was 80 years old at the time.
