The Oratory of St. John The Baptist is the seat of one of the most prestigious works of art in the city of Urbino: the great frescoes by Lorenzo e Jacopo Salimbeni from San Severino Marche, one masterpiece of international Gothic. It's a series of paintings completed in 1416 that has preserved all its original strength over the centuries.

The Salimbeni brothers were able to combine their styles and their personalities so they created a particularly fascinating artistic way, where their skilful use of color, their care of details and the effectivness of the story are some of the main elements that allow us to find a unique aesthetic dimension. Inside the Oratory of St. John the Baptist (its construction was completed in 1393, although the first news about it date back to 1365) we can admire the Salimbeni brother's style on the immense Crucifixion behind the main altar, in the History of St. John the Baptist which takes up the whole right wall and on the left wall where there are two frescoes that are considered to be the first in order of time: "Madonna of Humility" and "Madonna and Child on throne". The frescoes by the Salimbeni brothers are still a real find for those who love the spectacle of art, an unsettling experience in the capital of the Renaissance.
