Civico Museo della Risiera di San Sabba
Built in 1913, Civico Museo della Risiera di San Sabba served as a Nazi concentration camp during World War II, and is now a civic museum. As a concentration camp, the building was a detention center and the site of executions of political prisoners. Now, you can tour the structure, see the holding cells, and view historical objects, such as a leaded stick used to subdue prisoners. There are also graphic photos and displays with English translations. A former Nazi prison camp, the only one left in Italy, built in an old rice factory. While off the beaten path (we traveled by bus), this was well worth the visit. The place is somber and evocative... more »

I would advice to take the audio guide for understanding better. The museum is full of interesting explanations, on the contrary there are no explanations around the concentration camp.

This is a less known, yet very important site to visit. A remarkable monument of an era that should not be forgotten. For 2 euros only you can buy an audio guide which I really recommend to do so, as otherwise you won't understand what to look at and you won't have all the background information. If you get there by car the most convenient is to park at the supermarket's parking lot nearby.
